Severe Disablement Allowance

This is paid to people aged 65 and under who are unable to get Incapacity Benefit because they have not paid enough National Insurance contributions.

If you are able to work you can earn up to £20 per week without this affecting SDA, but other benefits may be affected.

Unfortunately, new claims were not accepted for this benefit after April 2001. If you were already receiving this benefit prior to April 2001, it will usually continue under the present rules.
