Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit

This is the most common state benefit available. It is paid to sufferers of pneumoconiosis, mesothelioma, primary carcinoma of the lung with evidence of asbestosis and/or pleural thickening and diffuse pleural thickening. The benefit awarded will depend on the seriousness of your condition.

To qualify for this benefit you must:

  • Have been employed in certain areas of industry
  • Not have been self-employed in the work causing your illness
  • Employed in the work causing your illness after 1948

IIDB can't be back-dated more than three months from the date of your claim, so it's important to make your claim quickly after your diagnosis. A claim for IIDB can also be made posthumously by the sufferer's next of kin or Executors of their estate. The claim must be made within six months of the date of death.
